MEET YOUR COUNSELOR
I strive to create a safe space to explore who you are, your experiences so far, and what you would like to become or experience, by providing a non-judgmental, respectful, calm, stable, and positive atmosphere where you are the expert on yourself and you are invited to share only what you feel comfortable sharing. I see the benefit of finding a label for oneself and even finding community in that label, but know that human beings are all unique and that labels may not apply or appeal to everyone, and may change throughout life. I would be honored to help you find your labels, or leave them behind.
Kristen R. Weick (“Kristy”) graduated from Rollins College with a Master of Arts degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. She is currently a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in the States of Florida, Massachusetts, and telehealth provider in South Carolina, as well as a National Certified Counselor (NCC).
During her education she completed pre-practicum experiences at a men's residential substance abuse recovery facility, and volunteered with Equality Florida to advocate for the rights of the LGBTQ+ citizens of Florida. Kristy had her practicum and internship counseling training at Zebra Youth. Zebra Youth (previously know as The Zebra Coalition) is a non-profit organization helping LGBTQ+ youth age 13-24 in the Central Florida area with a continuum of services including case management, counseling, housing, and a multitude of other needs.
Kristy has experience and training in working with the LGBTQ+ community, children, teens, and young adults, couples and families, mindfulness, clinical hypnosis, teaching coping skills, career counseling, increasing self-esteem, self-worth, and self-efficacy, those with trauma, substance abuse, anxiety, depression, people living with HIV / AIDS, and people going through life changes. Kristy has completed Level 1 Training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy and may use Gottman Method Therapy when counseling couples. She is also certified to practice clinical hypnosis in the state of Florida. Kristy completed Basic Training in EMDR in Spring 2024 and is able to do EMDR for clients for whom this would be an appopriate treatment.
Working from a strong base of person-centered therapy, Kristy also takes into account how society and culture affect people as they move through life, so social constructionism and multiculturalism are always underlying factors Kristy takes into consideration as a counselor. She also uses cognitive behavioral therapy while focusing on your strengths to help you reach your goals. Kristy believes that advocating for the human and civil rights of her clients, and for mental health care in general, is integral to being an effective counselor.
Please contact me if you would like to work together!
